I have strong interests in art, architecture, music, popular culture and sub-cultures.
I have been actively involved in all of those interests over the course of my life... & I think I always will be.
My first career as an Architectural Draftsman, working in both construction firms & architectural practices, gave me a strong knowledge of architectural design, history, drafting, and construction principles. When I left that industry to find something a little more creative ~ and a little less desk-bound ~ I was very happy to find that those skills learned and earned in design practices both small and large, were very applicable to the magical world of the Art Department.
I learned on the job- beginning as a runner, art dept assistant, progressing through to a buyer/dresser, on-set Art Director, then Art Director. This helped develop a strong understanding of the department, it’s structure and protocol. I have worked extensively in on-set roles, I have an excellent relationship with Construction, & particularly enjoy managing set builds & liaising with other HODs.
I love the collaborative process that produces beautiful film & TV… both within our department and with all the others.
